A Regional Meeting within the framework of the Biological Weapons Convention took place at the United Nations Office in Geneva.

– More than 100 experts from different countries participated in the event, – says the event participant, Chief Specialist of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of Uzbekistan, the National Coordinator for the Implementation of the BWC Otabek Kasimov. –  In accordance with the resolution of December 22, 1995, Uzbekistan joined the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction. Representatives of the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs expressed special gratitude to Uzbekistan and two other countries for their contribution to developing an online training module launched on the official UN website. The presented platform consists of seven modules and is aimed at training and professional development of national coordinators of the countries participating in the Convention. During the educational process, video tutorials were shown with the participation of coordinators from eight regions of the world, including Uzbekistan, Botswana, Ecuador, Hungary, Laos, and Qatar. This process aims to make learning practical and interactive.

The participants proposed holding the next regional meeting in Uzbekistan in the second half of 2025. This proposal is of great practical importance and contributes to strengthening long-term cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations in biosafety. It will also serve to further enhance Uzbekistan’s prestige in the international arena, ensuring not only national security but also global biological stability.
