Briefing on the meeting of the Ministers of Economy and Trade

Samarkand hosted a briefing at the International Tourist Center “The Great Silk Road” following the 11th Meeting of the Ministers of Economy and Trade held today as part of the first OTS Summit.

The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjayev and Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Baghdad Amreyev.

“At the meeting, we exchanged views to determine the most effective ways to strengthen interaction to accelerate the economic development of all member states and observers of the Organization through the implementation of initiatives in trade, investment, transport and the use of other mechanisms of multilateral relations”, J. Khodjayev said.

At the briefing, it was noted that it is planned to sign the Trade Facilitation Strategy within the framework of the forthcoming first Summit, which will contribute to the elimination of various trade barriers in the member states of the organization.

In turn, the OTS Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev informed about the issues raised at the meeting, the projects considered, and the plans.

“It is planned to create a Special Economic Zone in the city of Turkestan to further strengthen the consistent cooperation between the member states of the OTS, in particular, to enhance trade and economic ties, on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev”, Baghdad Amreyev said. – The implementation of this project is important for all Turkic countries, especially for your country. After all, the newly formed Turkestan region, located in the south of Kazakhstan, borders Uzbekistan.
