The capital Tashkent has played host to the seminar “Issues Related to Uplifting the Potential of Mass Media and Nongovernmental Nonprofit Organizations in Securing the Openness and Publicity of State Policies” organized by the Public Fund for the Support and Development of Independent Print Media and Information Agencies of Uzbekistan.

Speaking at the occasion, director of the Fund A.Abdullaev, chairman of the National Association of Nongovernmental Nonprofit Organizations of Uzbekistan A.Karimov and others noted that a great deal of significance is attached under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the protection of interests of all strata of the population, to the comprehensive support for the activities of civil society institutions.

The legislation of our country allows for the elevation of the activeness and role of social organizations in the process of reforms, for securing the implementation of tasks designated before them in the socially important national programs, for boosting their participation in the protection of rights and interests of citizens and nurturing a healthy generation.

To fund the current projects in the form of state social order, the Parliamentary Commission for the Management of Funds of the Public Foundation under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the Support of Nongovernmental Nonprofit Organizations and Other Institutions of Civil Society has assigned funds exceeding 2 billion soums in 2015 for social organizations and media outlets, suggestive of the great attention paid to the development of institutions of civil society.

Laws passed on the basis of the Concept of Intensifying the Democratic Reforms and Forming the Civil Society in the Country pushed forward by the head of our state, have served as a powerful impetus for bolstering the activities of nongovernmental nonprofit organizations. Thus, the Social Partnership Act approved in 2014 opens up new prospects in defining the frames in the relations of NNOs and public bodies in the implementation of programs in socioeconomic development, in addressing humanitarian issues, in protecting rights and interests of diverse strata of the population and perfecting the organizational and normative mechanisms.

The emphasis placed on the social organizations helps boost their participation in executing the socially important state programs.

The event served as an effective platform to discuss issues pertinent to securing the openness and publicity in the activities of government and management bodies, to boosting public scrutiny in the process of reforms, consolidating the cooperation of social organizations and mass media in uplifting the political and law culture of citizens.
