Tashkent has hosted the seventh session of the Uzbekistan-Germany Intergovernmental Commission on issues of Germans residing in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was attended by officials of ministries and other government agencies of the two countries dealing with the interior and foreign affairs, labor and social security, culture and sports.

Deputy Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Cochairman of the Intergovernmental Commission B.Kurbanov noted that the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany has been progressing steadily across many spheres.

Special emphasis is placed in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Islam Karimov to the consolidation of peace and interethnic harmony. Representatives of more than a hundred and thirty ethnic and sub-ethnic groups, working in diverse sectors, live in our country in friendship and concord. Extensive opportunities are created for the preservation and development of languages, cultures, customs and traditions of representatives of all ethnic and sub-ethnic groups. Established in 1992 on the initiative of the head of our state, the National Interethnic Cultural Center has been instrumental on this front.

The friendship societies “Uzbekistan-Germany” and “Germany-Uzbekistan” operating in both countries, along with the Tashkent-based German Cultural Center “Wiedergeburt”, have been making a worthwhile contribution to cementing the friendship and further development of cultural-enlightenment ties between our two peoples.

It was stressed at the occasion that the “Uzbekistan-Germany” friendship society facilitates the extensive informing of the public of the Federal Republic of Germany about our country by means of organizing various forums, concert shows, television and radio shows and exhibitions.

The “Germany-Uzbekistan” friendship society located in the city of Bonn is its permanent partner. The two societies regularly exchange delegations. Owing to those kinds of trips, our two peoples learn more about each other, an important factor in the evolution of bilateral relations.

As it was pointed out at the event, medical-social centers constituting a practical outcome of the cooperation among the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan, the Red Cross of Germany, the German Society for Technical Cooperation serve for the comprehensive support for the representatives of diverse ethnic groups living in Uzbekistan. Such centers have provided medical-social services to the population, including the ethnic Germans.

“The regular organization of such forums is indicative of the steadfast development of bilateral ties between Uzbekistan and Germany,” says Hartmut Koschyk, Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany for Re-settlers and National Minorities. “It is delightful that peace and stability as well as interethnic harmony reign in Uzbekistan. Customs and traditions of representatives of all ethnic and sub-ethnic groups, including the Germans, are respected in your country. Everything necessary is created for them to live freely, attain education, to work and reveal their creative abilities and potential. We champion further intensification of cooperation with Uzbekistan in all spheres, in particular in science and cultural-humanitarian area.”

The session participants discussed issues pertaining to the comprehensive support for Germans, expansion of scales of cultural-enlightenment and medical-social center, the further enhancement of cultural, scientific, educational and technical cooperation.
