Bishkek hosts an Interagency Working Meeting

On May 19 this year, an Interagency Working Meeting was held between the State Inspectorate for Environmental and Technical Safety under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in Bishkek.

The meeting was held within the framework of the visit to Bishkek of the Kyrgyz Republic of the delegation of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centers of Excellence consisting of the National Coordinator of the Republic of Uzbekistan Otabek Kasimov, Regional Coordinator Iryna Iarema, Regional Secretariat expert, Professor Lela Bakanidze and team assistant Jasurjon Ibragimov.

As previously reported, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov paid a state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan on March 11-12.

During the state visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Inspectorate for Environmental and Technical Safety under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Memorandum is aimed at the exchange of experience in the implementation of supervision and control activities in industrial and radiation safety, on issues of law enforcement practice, common violations of legislation and the mechanism for their elimination, improvement of the normative-legal framework in the industrial safety, as well as training and certification of specialists in industrial safety, etc.

At the meeting, the parties greeted each other and briefly exchanged information on the activities of the two agencies. The National Coordinator of the Republic of Uzbekistan Otabek Kasimov informed about the reorganization in the recent past of the State Inspectorate into the State Committee for Industrial Safety and about the ways and possibilities of fruitful cooperation between the agencies in industrial and radiation safety.

According to the Press Service of the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the key expert, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Lela Bakanidze informed the participants about the EU CBRN CoE Initiative.

Following the meeting, the parties assured each other that the signed Memorandum would serve to carry out meaningful work in the exchange of experience in industrial and radiation safety.

The parties also emphasized that the agencies of the two countries should promote the agreements that have been reached between the Presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting, the parties noted their commitment to the course of further strengthening Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan relations in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, trust and strategic partnership in industrial and radiation safety.
