The Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Rayhon Beruni hosted a press conference on the eve of the International Scientific-Practical Conference on “The role of the scientific legacy of the great thinker and encyclopedist Abu Rayhon Beruni in development of world science”.
The International Scientific Practical Conference will be held in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region on September 25-28. It will be dedicated to the life and work of Abu Rayhon Beruni and his significant contribution to the development of world civilization. In addition, Tashkent will host an international conference dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of Abu Rayhon Beruni’s birth.
It is expected that the event will be attended by 20 foreign guests from 15 countries, famous scientists and intellectuals, writers, poets, representatives of art and culture, 200 scientific experts from among the members of the “Marifat” propagandist society, journalists, and bloggers from all regions of the country.
Several events are planned to promote the life and scientific and educational activities of Abu Rayhon Beruni and his outstanding contribution to the development of world civilization among the population, especially among young people, as well as in educational institutions and work collectives. At the same time, to widely study and promote the scientific and educational heritage of Abu Rayhon Beruni and his humanitarian ideas, roundtable discussions will be held with students and youth on “A spiritually developed generation is the builder of a stable society”.
Abu Rayhon Beruni’s book “Kitab al-saydala fi al-tibb” (Book on the Pharmacopoeia of Medicine) is being prepared. This book is a complete scientific annotated translation into Uzbek of his latest work in Arabic, which has come down to us in a single manuscript. This work is a valuable source on the history of medieval pharmacology, containing descriptions and names of more than a thousand drugs in various languages and dialects. The book outlines Beruni’s contributions to medicine, geography, botany, zoology, and philology.
A brochure “Socio-political and legal views of Abu Rayhon Beruni” was also prepared. This brochure describes Beruni’s life, scientific legacy, and socio-political views.
Beruni’s scientific heritage includes 150 works on mathematics, astronomy, geography, mineralogy, history, ethnography, philology, and philosophy. Beruni spoke Arabic, Persian, Greek, and Sanskrit and developed rules of natural scientific terminology for translation from one language to another.
At the press conference, large-scale enlightenment events related to the priceless scientific and educational heritage and the 1050th anniversary of Abu Rayhon Beruni’s birth were discussed in detail.
