Azerbaijan to grow cocoons based on Uzbekistan’s experience
22:06 / 2023-03-09

Cooperation with Azerbaijan in sericulture began after the signing of a memorandum providing for the development of the sericulture industry in Azerbaijan.

The document was signed by the heads of the two states at the summit of the Commonwealth of Turkic States in 2019.

Thanks to the help of Uzbek specialists, the industry has risen to a new level. Systemic work is being carried out in Azerbaijan to launch a joint venture project in sericulture, to establish non-waste processing of silk, and to develop the fodder base of the silkworm. A joint venture AZ SILK was established. It employs 30 agronomists. Preparations are carried out for growing cocoons based on the experience of Uzbekistan in seven districts. Contracts with home-based workers are being completed, hatcheries are being prepared.

The company will work on establishing the harvesting of cocoons, improving their quality, creating mulberry plantations, introducing the mechanization of sericulture, and expanding research in this area.
