Aquaculture diversification as a sustainability factor

On March 28-29, Tashkent hosts a regional workshop on Aquaculture diversification, aimed at small farmers and employees of agricultural knowledge dissemination services. The event was organized by FAO in cooperation with the State Committee of Veterinary and Livestock Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The event is aimed at exchanging experience and information on potential opportunities and existing barriers to the diversification of aquaculture production.

It is attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan. The target audience includes government agencies involved in aquaculture planning, policy development, management and provision of services for the dissemination of knowledge in aquaculture, managers of fisheries, small fish farmers and researchers working in aquaculture development.

During the first day of the workshop, each participating country presented the current state of affairs in aquaculture. The presentations described the current state of cultivated species, the scale of production, used technologies and production problems. The workshop covered a wide range of topics related to species diversification in aquaculture.
