The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Development under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, put forward a new initiative to be implemented by the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) within the framework of the USAID’s Global Health Security Program.
The project aims to increase the capacity of Uzbekistan to prevent, identify and respond promptly to various threats that pose a danger to both animals and humans.
The workshop dedicated to the launch of the project was attended by representatives of FAO, experts from the veterinary and livestock industry, international organizations, research institutes, and civil society.

The project on capacity building in animal health, “Unified Health” and the fight against antimicrobial resistance to prevent and mitigate zoonotic threats in Uzbekistan was presented, an annual work plan was approved, and the main activities under this initiative were discussed.
It was noted that “Unified Health” will increase preparedness for possible crises and reduce the risks arising from the interaction between humans, animals, and the environment.
Animal health and food safety issues have become a priority in Uzbekistan. The experts will continue their cooperation, and joint projects will be implemented.
