An exhibition of Japanese scarves
The opening ceremony of the exhibition of Japanese scarves “Furoshiki” organized by the Academy of Arts jointly with the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek-Japanese Center, and the Community for the Study of the Japanese Tea Ceremony in Tashkent was held at the Ikuo Hirayama International Caravanserai of Culture.
The exhibition demonstrates 75 types of furoshiki scarves.

Furoshiki is translated as “bath rug”. This square-shaped woven handkerchief has been used since ancient times in Japan to wrap and carry something, such as onigiri (rice ball). An object of almost any shape could be placed in it.
Furoshiki are made from cotton, silk, or polyester in various sizes. They are applied with traditional patterns or painted using the shibori (dyeing) technique.

The exhibition will run until August 20 this year.
