An exhibition of Indo-Islamic calligraphy kicks off in Navoi

The exhibition “The Written Heritage of India: The Written Art of Indo-Islamic Calligraphy” kicked off at Navoi Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment. It is organized in cooperation with the Hokimiyat of Navoi region by Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture and the regional branch of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

Acting Hokim of Navoi region Normat Tursunov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Uzbekistan Manish Prabhat, Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture in Tashkent Chander Shekhar took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

According to the Hokimiyat of Navoi region, the head of the region Normat Tursunov, informed the guests about the economic and investment opportunities of the region, noting that there are all grounds for further development of cooperation in trade, economy, education, culture and healthcare.

In turn, Ambassador Manish Prabhat expressed interest in enhancing cooperation between the two countries, including organizing joint projects to train students of higher education institutions, exchange personnel in education and healthcare, develop tourism potential and attract investors.

It was noted that the exhibition will serve the further development of cultural ties between Uzbekistan and India.

The exhibition presents writing samples by famous calligraphers of the Herat school of arts of the 15th-19th centuries, which differs from other schools in the elegance and subtlety of writing. Almost all examples of calligraphy presented were widely used in writing verses of the Quran.

Then the guests took part in the opening ceremony of the Indian Training Center at Navoi State Pedagogical Institute and the exhibition of works in the self-portrait genre, organized at the Art Gallery of Navoi city.

The exhibition will run until 7 April.
