Tashkent hosts International Rapid Chess Tournament among the world chess stars “Amir Temur Memorial 2016”, dedicated to 680th anniversary of Amir Temur.Famous grandmasters Rustam Kasimdzhanov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Boris Gelfand (Israel), and Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) compete for the victory in the round-robin tournament, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Uzbekistan Chess Federation (UCF).
At the present time, our chess players regularly take top places at international tournaments. In 2015, representatives of our country in international competitions won 25 gold, 8 silver and 12 bronze medals.
The current year season is also passed successfully. At the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2016 in Mongolia, our young sportsmen won 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. In the team competition of the Asian Nations Cup Chess Championship 2016 held in the city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, women's national team of Uzbekistan won the silver medal at the standard and rapid chess.
According to the results of the first round of the International Chess Tournament of the world stars “Amir Temur Memorial 2016” Shakhriyar Mamedyarov scored 2 points, Rustam Kasimdzhanov - 1.5, Ruslan Ponomariov - 1.5, Boris Gelfand - 1 point.
