The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Austria, Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna Sherzod Asadov met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Austria, Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna Sherzod Asadov met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir.

At the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction open and trusting dialogue established in recent years between Uzbekistan and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, as well as discussed prospects for further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Harlem Désir highlighted Uzbekistan's efforts on creating favorable conditions for free media activity in the country, strengthening the status of journalists, as well as recent restoration of full access to certain foreign media and human rights websites.

The effective implementation of the Action Strategy on five priority areas of the country's development for 2017-2021, initiated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in particular strengthening the role of media, protection of journalists’ professional activities, as well as unhindered access to information, was noted at the meeting.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, following the meeting, an agreement was reached on organization of a number of joint events with the Agency of Information and Mass Communications under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the second half of 2019 within the framework of the mandate of OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
