Ambassador of Uzbekistan discusses practical issues of disbursing a loan of 100 million euros
08:24 / 2021-04-21

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Benelux countries Dilyor Khakimov has held a videoconference with the Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) for Central Asia, Adam Bruun.

In 2017, Uzbekistan and the EIB signed a framework agreement in Washington, establishing the legal basis for the bank’s activities in the country, namely, the provision of financing and technical assistance.

The launch of the EIB’s operations in Uzbekistan supports the implementation of the EU Central Asia Strategy.

It was noted that within the framework of the agreement on the implementation of a project in the Aral Sea region for the restoration and modernization of irrigation systems, the EIB, together with the Ministry of Water Resources and the State Forestry Committee of Uzbekistan, is carrying out preparatory work to develop a feasibility study for the development of the allocated loan for 100 million euros.

The EIB decided to send an international consultant to Uzbekistan at the expense of the non-profit organization “Forest for the Future Facility”, which, together with Uzbek partners, will start developing a feasibility study for the project.
