President of the UN Human Rights Council, Ambassador Federico Villegas, focused on important and urgent problems of our time in his video message to the participants of the Global Forum on Human Rights Education:
– 47 states are members of the UN Human Rights Council. We know that the organization is the main institution responsible for helping to support and protect human rights around the world. The Council has the relevant mandate of the General Assembly. Since the foundation of the organization in 2006, human rights education has become one of the priority areas of activity. I think it is appropriate to express some thoughts. The world community is experiencing three realities that have an unimaginable impact on the entire modern worldview. This is a pandemic crisis, climate change and war taking place in Europe, which can lead to global consequences. Each of these phenomena has a direct involvement in human rights. In this regard, the most optimal way to overcome these problems and prevent the recurrence of such negative situations is to approach them from the perspective of human rights. To prevent the emergence of such crises, it is necessary to have advanced norms and institutions in human rights. Is there a more effective way than education to recognize the importance of diversity of values, achieve well-being and eliminate conflicts?!
I think that education is a good opportunity for human rights to protect the weakest segments of the population and achieve sustainable progress. We see that Uzbekistan's activities as a member of the UN Human Rights Council have positive practical results. I express my special gratitude to the President and the Government of the country, to all the organizers of the event for the initiatives and efforts in the human rights shown within the framework of the Samarkand Global Forum.
