Akramjon Nematov: “The opening of the Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan border brought our countries closer again”

First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akramjon Nematov, who addressed the international conference “Perspective areas for the development of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan”, which takes place online and offline, considered the current state of bilateral cooperation and praised the results achieved.

It was noted that in recent years, thanks to the firm political will of the leaders of the two countries, political dialogue and mutual trust have been strengthened, many issues are being resolved in all areas of bilateral interaction, and all conditions have been created for the development of effective cooperation.

It was noted that the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, from the first days of taking office, paid special attention to improving relations with Kyrgyzstan, and these efforts were fully supported by the neighboring country, the fraternal people.

The state visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov to Uzbekistan in March 2021 was an important event in the relations between the two countries. Following the talks, the parties signed 22 documents related to various fields.

The ISRS Deputy Head emphasized that the opening of the borders caused great joy among the population. After years of crisis, relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have been restored. More than 30,000 people cross the borders of the two countries every day, relatives and friends living in neighboring regions of the two countries got the opportunity to visit each other, continuing ancient traditions, bringing brotherly peoples closer and closer.

According to A. Nematov, in recent years, attention to the development of mutual entrepreneurship among entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have sharply increased. For example, the number of enterprises operating in the country with the participation of the capital of a neighboring country has exceeded 300. This figure has increased almost six times over the past five years.
