After the President’s visit: The experience of Oltiariq will be more widely used in viticulture
08:18 / 2023-07-30

A demonstrative workshop on implementing the Oltiariq experience has begun in Fergana region.

Representatives of relevant ministries, responsible persons of the industry from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, hokims and their deputies from all districts, heads of farms, chairmen of citizens’ assemblies of mahallas, and entrepreneurs are participating in it.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his trip to Fergana region on July 27-28, visited the vineyard of the “Khayrullo Bakhrom Boymatov” farm in Oltiariq district. The Head of state noted that there are many areas in the country with suitable conditions for viticulture and gave instructions to introduce the Oltiariq experience in them and increase vineyards. The workshop was organized to ensure the execution of these instructions.

Fergana region has great potential in the export of products. At the same time, Uzbekistan’s cherries, grapes, apricots, peaches, pomegranates, persimmons, and melons are in increasing demand on the world market.

Oltiariq district has extensive experience in growing grapes. Here, most households plant grape varieties that have a distinctive taste. Consistent actions are being taken to popularize the Oltiariq experience in viticulture throughout the country and to introduce innovative ideas widely. In the region, attention is paid to creating new varieties and adapting promising industrial grape varieties to local conditions, which involves the support of families and initiative entrepreneurs dealing with these issues.

At the initiative of the Hokimiyat of Fergana region, new vineyards were created on the hilly terrain of the Oltiariq district of 1000 hectares. On an area of 4,500 hectares, table grape varieties are cultivated using the “voish” method.

The participants of the workshop toured the vineyards of the farm “Khayrullo Bakhrom Boymatov”. They discussed the prospects for the development of viticulture and the introduction of the experience of Oltiariq people.

The resolution of the Head of state “On additional measures to introduce a cluster system in the development of viticulture, state support for attracting advanced technologies in this area” of July 28, 2021, plays an essential role in the development of the industry. Over the past period, vineyards have been created in 48 districts on 106,000 hectares. Vines of 34 new varieties of seedless grapes were delivered from Europe. 183 billion UZS subsidies were allocated over three years for state support for the industry.

At the demonstration workshop, it was noted that numerous tasks for further development of viticulture have been defined, and a draft resolution has been developed in this area. Participants continue to get acquainted with best practices in mahallas.
