A meeting of the Central Election Commission was held. The participants considered several issues related to the preparatory work for the referendum.
Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Z. Nizamkhodjayev noted that the composition of 10,758 referendum sites with 117,000 members was approved, 80 percent of them had previously participated in the elections.
The issue of organizing advance polling was discussed at the meeting.
“According to the legislation, advance polling can be held for citizens who are unable to be at their place of residence on the day of the referendum in the polling stations where the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be held”, Khudoyor Mamatov, head of the CEC Secretariat said. – Advance polling will start on April 19, 2023 and end on April 26, 2023. The time of advance polling at the referendum precinct on weekdays is from 9:00 to 18:00, on weekends and holidays – from 12:00 to 16:00. It is worth noting that the experience of advance polling is introduced in a referendum for the first time. This will create greater opportunities for citizens to effectively exercise their political rights.
The issue of accreditation of observers from foreign countries and international organizations, media representatives was also considered. It was noted that 30 representatives of the observer mission of the CIS and foreign countries, such as Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and India, were accredited by the decision of the Central Election Commission. 102 representatives of the country’s media and 11 foreign journalists have been accredited. The number of accredited representatives of domestic and foreign media is 496 people.
