ACWA Power to build the largest wind farm in Karakalpakstan
16:36 / 2021-05-04

An Agreement has been signed on the implementation of a wind farm project between ACWA Power, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the project includes the development, construction and operation of wind power plants with a capacity of 1,500 MW in Karakalpakstan, which, after commissioning, will become the largest in the Central Asian region and one of the largest in the world.

Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjayev noted that by 2030 Uzbekistan plans to produce 25 percent of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES).

The project is expected to meet the electricity demand of approximately 4 million households and offset approximately 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, which will directly contribute to the Government’s goals of significantly increasing RES electricity generation to meet growing demand.
