11:52 / 2020-11-17

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov has attended the Ministerial Conference on Promotion of Religious Freedoms.

On November 16, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov attended the Ministerial Conference on Promotion of Religious Freedoms and delivered a video message to delegates, in Warsaw, Poland.

Uzbekistan’s FM informed participants about the country’s experience in ensuring religious freedom, as well as consistent implementation of Uzbekistan’s international obligations in this direction.

Specific measures taken in Uzbekistan in a short period of time to strengthen religious freedom were noted. In particular, the Draft Law “On freedom of conscience and religious organizations” is being developed in a new version, taking into account the norms of international law and best democratic standards, simplifying the procedures for state registration of religious associations, and holding parliamentary hearings on monitoring freedom of religion and belief for the first time in the country's history.

The Minister also stressed that one of the most effective ways to ensure religious freedom and interethnic harmony in society is to strengthen culture of tolerance, as well as to actively promote education and enlightenment.

Uzbekistan’s FM expressed confidence that this important forum will become another successful step in consolidating international efforts to promote the protection of human rights to freedom of religion.
