A subsidy will be provided for each tourist attracted from Malaysia and Indonesia
19:34 / 2026-01-12

Developing the tourism sector is critical to boosting the national economy, creating jobs, and promoting national cultural heritage globally.

With its ancient history, rich traditions, and unique natural landscapes, Uzbekistan can increase domestic and international tourist flows by effectively leveraging its tourism potential.

Therefore, attracting investment to the sector, improving infrastructure, and enhancing service quality remain among the key priorities.

The Government resolution adopted on January 9 this year, titled “On additional measures to implement the ‘Umrah Plus’ pilgrimage tourism program”, outlines several tasks.

In particular, in 2026-2027, the number of tourists from Malaysia and Indonesia in the “pilgrimage tourism” segment is expected to increase to 100,000. By the end of 2026, tour operators that attract tourists from Malaysia and Indonesia under the “Umrah Plus” pilgrimage tourism program will receive a $100 subsidy per tourist from the Tourism Support Fund, administered through the Tourism Committee.

In addition, joint educational programs will be launched between the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and higher education institutions in Malaysia in the field and specializations of “Tourism and Hospitality”.

Furthermore, measures will be taken to enable Malaysian and Indonesian travelers to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in Uzbekistan. Thematic tourism promotion campaigns titled “In the footsteps of Imam Bukhari” and “Spend Ramadan in Uzbekistan” will be organized in Malaysia and Indonesia. Separate pilgrimage tourism roadshows will be held in regions of Malaysia with a large Muslim population.
