On April 5-9 this year, the CBRN CoE, together with the State Committee for Industrial Safety, organized a visiting mission to the city of Nukus of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Urgench in Khorezm region to promote the foundations of chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear safety.
Meetings of the Regional Secretariat expert – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Lela Bakanidze – were held for students of the profile faculties of Karakalpak State University and Urgench State University on chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear safety through an interactive conversation.
Chairman of the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Head of the Regional Secretariat Bakhtiyor Gulyamov addressed the meeting. He informed about the activities of the secretariat. Mr. Gulyamov noted that ensuring chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear safety is of great importance both for the sustainable development of the country and for the bright future of the young generation.

Mrs. Lela Bakanidze spoke about the current coronavirus epidemic. She introduced the children about the reasons for its occurrence and about the rules on how to protect themselves from the coronavirus. Children also learned what chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are, why they need to be destroyed, what harm they can do to humanity and nature.
According to the State Committee for Industrial Safety, the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction, as well as the conventions in radiation and nuclear safety, were considered. Students were shown slides on the theme, told about the work of the World Health Organization, Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
