Tashkent hosts a regional forum “Implementation of UNSCR 1325 for Strengthening Women’s Role in Ensuring Peace and Security in Central Asia” with the participation of women’s civil society organizations.
According to the upper house of Parliament, the event was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the Women Leaders’ Dialogue in Central Asia Tanzila Narbayeva, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of UNRCCA Natalia Gherman, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Alia El-Yassir and heads of several international organizations, as well as women civil society representatives from five Central Asian countries.
Tanzila Narbayeva informed that in Uzbekistan, work is currently underway to create a national platform of women leaders, the activities of which will cover issues of promoting gender equality, protecting the rights and interests of women at all levels (mahalla, district, region, country).
The regional forum aimed to strengthen cooperation among the Central Asia Women Leaders’ Dialogue, civil society institutions, government agencies and international organizations to advance the implementation of the global Women, Peace and Security Agenda at the national and regional levels.
The participants discussed common problems and priorities in the area of the global Women, Peace and Security Agenda, identified effective mechanisms to address them, and shared experience and best practices for implementing current and planned initiatives.
Following the forum, common positions on priorities for joint actions to promote the Women, Peace and Security Global Agenda in Central Asia were developed and agreed upon, including the possibility of developing a corresponding regional action plan.
