The delegation led by the Acting Hokim of Tashkent Shavkat Umurzakov met with the Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng.

As Shavkat Umurzakov noted, the friendship between Uzbekistan and China has a long history. He also touched upon the prospects for developing the city of Tashkent and proposed cooperation in the implementation of projects.

Mr. Gong Zheng expressed his readiness to cooperate in strengthening city governance, developing the tourism sector, and increasing foreign trade and investment.

It was emphasized that it is essential for Tashkent to study Shanghai’s rich experience in urban planning and continue interaction. It was noted that the partnership between Uzbekistan and China has reached a new strategic level and is directly related to the political will and initiatives of the heads of the two states.

The parties considered projects implemented jointly with Chinese partners in Tashkent.

The Mayor of Shanghai expressed support for all proposals and readiness for complete assistance and cooperation.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Tashkent City Hokimiyat and the Shanghai Mayor’s Office.
