On 23 February 2021, a meeting with LEICA program experts was held at the State Committee for Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was organized as part of the cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union in combating terrorism.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the CBRN CoE Regional Secretariat of Central Asia, Mr. Bakhtiyor Gulyamov, National Coordinator of the Republic of Uzbekistan Otabek Kasimov, Regional Coordinator Irina Yarema, Key Expert Lela Bakanidze and Regional Secretariat Team Assistant Jasurjon Ibragimov. LEICA program was presented by the Project Director Ribault-Gaillard, experts Valeriy Korotenko and Manuel Lorenzo Marion, as well as the Manager of the European Delegation Program in Uzbekistan Alessandro Liamine and the National Expert of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Sattarov.
It was noted that the LEICA project is funded by the European Union. It is aimed at strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies in Central Asia to improve security both at the national and regional levels.
Head of the CBRN CoE Regional Secretariat of Central Asia, Mr. Bakhtiyor Gulyamov, informed about the activities of the Secretariat and its great achievements, especially during the difficult periods of the pandemic. He also briefly introduced the guests to the activities of the State Committee for Industrial Safety and spoke about the international organizations with which the committee cooperates.
According to the Press Service of the State Committee on Industrial Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan, following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process on possible further cooperation in CBRN security. The parties noted their common interest in this area and expressed their commitment to establishing long-term ties in CBRN security within the framework of the EU CBRN CoE.
