A meeting of the Human Rights Commission of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Saint Petersburg.
Representatives of Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan attended the event.
The protection of the social rights of citizens working in the CIS countries was discussed.
A commission member, Ombudsman of Uzbekistan F. Eshmatova, noted the importance of improving legislation on migration based on international law and strengthening mechanisms for protecting migrants’ rights and freedoms.
Particular attention was paid to improving migration legislation and protecting migrants’ rights, which are relevant in the CIS. Confidence was expressed that forming a common approach to defining and classifying migrants’ rights and obligations, consistent with international human rights obligations, will help resolve many long-standing issues in migration.
