A healthy environment is a stability factor

An event has taken place in the Gofur Gulom cultural and recreational park in our capital city on the occasion of 5 June – World Environment Day.This event was held jointly by Uzbekistan’s Ecological Movement and by a group of eco-movement MPs of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly. MPs, representatives of state and public organizations, scientists, ecologists and journalists attended the event.
B.Alikhonov, deputy speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly and chairman of the executive committee of the Central Council of the Ecological Movement, and others have noted that economic, social and ecological reforms being implemented under the leadership of our President Islam Karimov are an important factor in environmental protection, careful management of natural resources and saving them for future generations.
Non-governmental organizations in our country are also taking an active part in carrying out measures aimed at environmental protection. Uzbekistan’s ecological movement in cooperation with relevant state and public organizations is carrying out large-scale work under the slogan “A healthy environment is people’s health”. In this process special attention is being paid to expanding the scope of ecological projects, to improving the mechanism for implementing laws, programmes and projects related to this sphere and to developing public ecological monitoring.
Members of the ecological group of MPs are carrying out systemic work on improving the ecological legislation and on studying the effectiveness of the implementation of these law in localities.
As part of the event, the “Mother Nature” creative contest was held among schoolchildren, a contest of scientific popular articles on ecology and nature was held among scientists, doctors and journalists, and a contest was held among students and young scientists for the best idea on adapting to global warming. The winners of these contests were given awards.
