Presentation of a two-volume book “Typological catalogue of Uzbek fairy tales”, created in co-authorship of the scientist-folklorist Gabriele Keller from Germany and professors Khurram Rakhimov and Mamatkul Jurayev, was held in Samarkand. This book, which is the fruit of a ten-year scientific cooperation of Uzbek and German folklore scholars, is published in German. Collections of fairy tales that were published earlier, as well as materials recorded from residents in the course of research and creative searches of authors, conducted jointly with specialists of museums and higher educational institutions of our country, were used during the preparation of the book.
Gabriele Keller, who will turn 80 this year, visited Uzbekistan for the first time in 1997, took part in the international conference held in Samarkand. Then her love to our land was born. Since then, she annually visits our country and studies the customs, art, folklore of our people. After collecting all the Uzbek folk tales, she published a book “Fairy tales from Samarkand” in German. In 2005, when she was awarded the title of honorary citizen of the city of Samarkand, Gabriele Keller enthusiastically noted: “Uzbekistan is my second homeland, I am the daughter of Samarkand”.
During her trips to our country, the German researcher visited different regions, during this time she managed to write down unique examples of folklore. This book also includes fairy tales heard directly from local residents during the expeditions to Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions. This edition has a huge scientific value as the first catalogue of folk tales in Central Asia.
