Active preparations are underway for the International Folklore Festival “Boysun Bahori” (“Boysun Spring”) in Boysun district of Surkhandarya region, which will take place in April this year.
The event is organized following the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to organize and hold the International Folklore Festival “Boysun Bahori” of February 7, 2022.
Skilled craftswomen of the family business “Boysun Afruzbek” wove a unique carpet thirty meters long and two and a half meters wide for this major cultural event, held every two years.

“In ancient times, our grandmothers wove such a carpet by hand only from camel hair and applied patterns with natural paints”, says Khadicha Rakhimberdiyeva, head of Boysun Afruzbek family business. – The carpet, which we called “Oq en”, was made by eight of my apprentices in eight months based on the ancient traditions of our ancestors. We are planning to demonstrate our handmade product, which was made using 60 kilograms of yarn from pure camel wool, at the upcoming international festival. To apply patterns, we also used natural dyes that our grandmothers and great-grandmothers used. We hope that our carpet will make a special impression on local and foreign participants of this holiday, which has received the status of the Boysun Bahori International Folklore Festival.

According to experts, the festival serves not only to preserve our national traditions and customs, promote folklore art, further increase the interest of young people in oral folk art, but also maintain the harmony and diversity of national cultures, contribute to the protection and development of the best examples of intangible cultural heritage, strengthen international cultural cooperation, development of tourism.
“Within the framework of the festival, interesting trips to the sights of the region will be organized”, said the head of the department for tourism and cultural heritage of Boysun district Norali Pardayev. – Exhibitions of national instruments and costumes, handicrafts, works of fine and applied art, drone shows, ethnosport competitions, uloq-kupkari, kurash and other colorful events will be held.

“At the international festival, we will try to widely demonstrate to the audience how respectfully and carefully our people treat their history, culture, unique folklore art”, said Khamza Bozorov, head of Boysun regional department of culture. – For this purpose, the entire repertoire is replenished with new live performances, the main attention is paid to a wide demonstration of national costumes inherent in Boysun, music and dances. Under a special roadmap, large-scale work is underway to repair roads leading to the picturesque hills and plains where the festival events will be held, improve and plant greenery on the territory, and create modern conditions for participants and visitors.
