200 years of The Guardian
The British daily newspaper Guardian is celebrating its 200th anniversary. Its print edition has a daily circulation of more than 110,000.
It was founded in 1821 as The Manchester Guardian and changed its name in 1959. Following the closure of the Anglican Church Newspaper, The Guardian, in 1951, the paper dropped “Manchester” from its title in 1959, becoming simply The Guardian.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the editorial board publishes the most important articles from all issues of the newspaper in chronological order on the official website of the newspaper.
