Eldiyor Tashmatov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations at Geneva, met with Habip Asan, Director of the Division for Transition and Developed Countries at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The parties discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of WIPO Director General Daren Tang to Uzbekistan, scheduled for May 27-28 this year. This visit will mark the first time the head of the organization visits a Central Asian country.

WIPO, which unites over 180 countries, is crucial in coordinating intellectual property protection and administering international agreements. Uzbekistan has been a member of the organization since 1991 and has ratified approximately 20 international WIPO documents.

Habip Asan noted that the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan have received high praise from the United Nations. WIPO also positively assesses Uzbekistan’s efforts to promote intellectual property, integrate innovations into the economy, and establish regional brands.

Preparations for Daren Tang’s visit are being conducted at a high level, and his arrival in Uzbekistan will represent a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the country and WIPO.
