
Tashkent hosts the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
As part of the Assembly, nearly 90 events and debates are scheduled, all aimed at enhancing parliamentary engagement and increasing the active role of parliaments in achieving social progress and building a just society.
Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan T. Narbayeva, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber N. Ismoilov, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson, and Secretary General Martin Chungong emphasized that the Assembly is significant not only for its historic nature but also for its content, which focuses on the development of the social sphere as a key condition for strengthening the relationship between society and the state, and for ensuring sustainable growth across all countries.
“The Inter-Parliamentary Union, which holds a solid position, commands respect, and has a distinct voice on the global political stage, is actively engaged in key areas such as the development of parliamentary diplomacy, the strengthening of democratic institutions, the protection of human rights, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”, said Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan. “The organization supports national legislatures in developing common strategies to address contemporary threats by integrating best practices and advanced experience. Especially in times of rising geopolitical tension, the Inter-Parliamentary Union aims to strengthen the role of parliaments in maintaining peace and security, resolving conflicts, developing international law, and promoting a peaceful foreign policy. Special attention is given to the protection of human rights in conflict zones, the prevention of violence, and the provision of humanitarian assistance to those affected”.
