The 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee was held in Paris. During the session, a favorable decision was made to retain the city of Shakhrisabz on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
According to the Art and Culture Development Foundation, the Committee highly commended Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve this site and emphasized the importance of practical cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
As the next stage, Uzbekistan has been granted three years to prepare a renewed nomination. The primary focus will be on the architectural heritage of the Timurid era, reflecting the historical role of Shakhrisabz as a political, cultural, and religious center.
It is planned to designate the historical part of the city as a buffer zone, which will enable more effective preservation of its cultural value. This decision is the result of a systematic and transparent dialogue conducted within the framework of international cooperation.
The session was attended by a delegation led by Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, who expressed gratitude to international partners for their trust and support.
