At an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Kurash Association (IKA) convened to discuss the 15th World Senior Kurash Championship, it was noted that, due to the unstable political situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, ensuring competitors’ safety is a priority.
The options of postponing the World Cup or holding it in another country were considered at the meeting, held via videoconference.
As noted, approximately 300 athletes and officials from more than 35 countries have registered to participate in the World Cup via the IKA Registration System.
Taking into account the current situation and the Kurash Federation of Iran’s level of preparation to organize the championship at a high level, the meeting approved a ten-day monitoring period.
It was established that if the political situation does not stabilize during this period, the 15th World Senior Kurash Championship will be held in another country in March-April.
The desire to host the 15th World Senior Kurash Championship was expressed by the Uzbekistan Kurash Federation and the Egyptian Kurash Federation, from which relevant proposals have already been received.
