The delegation led by the Governor of Gifu Prefecture, Japan, Hajime Furuta, arrived in Samarkand.

First, a meeting was held between the leaders of Samarkand region and Gifu Prefecture.

Welcoming guests from Japan, Hokim of Samarkand region Erkinjon Turdimov noted friendly ties with Japan and expressed confidence that cooperation between the regions would benefit both parties.

During the talks, views were exchanged on organizing business forums in Samarkand and Gifu, creating favorable conditions for entrepreneurs’ joint activities, and establishing interaction in education, tourism, and information technology.

Proposals were voiced, such as presenting a “smart city” project for Samarkand, launching direct flights, and holding mutual cultural days.

Mr. Turdimov invited representatives of the arts sector of Gifu Prefecture to participate in the International Music Festival, which will soon be held in Samarkand.

Following the meeting, a memorandum was signed to establish cooperation between Samarkand region and Gifu Prefecture.

Members of the Japanese delegation visited the Registan complex and other historical monuments and became acquainted with the city’s history and culture.

The delegation of Gifu Prefecture visited Samarkand State Medical University, became acquainted with its activities, and reached a cooperation agreement.
