From April 18 to May 22, 2024, an exhibition of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority will be organized at the Silk Road Tourist Center in Samarkand, dedicated to archaeological discoveries in the emirate.

This exciting and significant exhibition, which will feature 121 unique archaeological artifacts, fully represents life in Sharjah during historical periods, including the Bronze and Iron Ages and pre-Islamic times in the country.

“The purpose of the prestigious exhibition, which is planned to be held in Samarkand, is to strengthen cooperation in archaeological research, exchange experience, and conduct joint scientific research in cultural heritage”, says Issa Yousef, Director of Archaeology and Tangible Heritage at Sharjah Archaeology Authority. “The project showcases the rich cultural, historical, and archaeological aspects of the United Arab Emirates, allowing visitors to get to know the cultural heritage, diversity, and history of the Emirate of Sharjah”.

Exhibitions play an important role in developing tourism in the emirate and promoting regional civilization. Therefore, the head of the department expressed the opinion that the conference’s location in Samarkand, a city of special cultural and scientific significance on the Great Silk Road, is not in vain.

“This ancient city was considered the center of the development of world science, and also played an important role in uniting East and West”, says Issa Yousef.

It should be noted that among the exhibits that will be presented is a collection of coins used in trade on the Great Silk Road, including Kushan coins, Abbasid dirhams, and one Sogdian copper coin, as well as collections of ceramics found in Mleiha.

According to Sharjah Archaeology Authority, along with high-level international exhibitions, this presentation was also organized in Japan, Spain and Belgium. The administration separately notes the exhibition at the National Museum of Beijing, where 14 archaeological artifacts were presented.

In 2020, the “Archaeology of Sharjah” exhibition opened at the National Museum of Archeology in Lisbon and received recognition from the Portuguese Association of Museology.
