Uzbekistan participates in the 72nd Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe in Malta
The Uzbekistan delegation, led by Chairman of the Tourism Committee Abdulaziz Akkulov is taking part in the 72nd Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, held in Malta.
At the event, participants are discussing current issues in the development of international tourism, including the digitalization of the industry, the increase in tourist flows, ensuring travel safety, and promoting initiatives. Special attention was paid to the development of the International Safe Tourism Code, initiated by Uzbekistan, and to preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027.
Representatives of European countries, international organizations, and tourism industry experts are taking part in the event.
Speaking at the event, Abdulaziz Akkulov noted that, at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the opening ceremony of the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027 will be held in Uzbekistan. This initiative has received unanimous support from European states. He also discussed ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, infrastructure improvements, and the development of new tourist destinations. It was emphasized that preserving ecological balance, protecting cultural heritage sites, and developing tourism, taking into account the interests of the local population, are among the country’s priorities.
In turn, the UN leadership on tourism highly appreciated the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s personnel training for the industry.
It was noted that Uzbekistan’s participation in the meeting contributes to strengthening international cooperation, expanding partnerships, and studying best practices in the tourism sector worldwide.
