How much has Uzbekistan’s student population increased over 35 years?

According to the National Statistics Committee, at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, 1.535.000 students were enrolled in higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.

Compared with the 1991/1992 academic year, the number increased by 1.1976 million, or nearly 4.6 times.

The number of students by academic year:

1991/1992 academic year – 337.4 thousand;

1995/1996 academic year – 192.1 thousand;

2000/2001 academic year – 183.6 thousand;

2005/2006 academic year – 278.7 thousand;

2010/2011 academic year – 274.5 thousand;

2015/2016 academic year – 264.3 thousand;

2020/2021 academic year – 571.5 thousand;

2021/2022 academic year – 808.4 thousand;

2022/2023 academic year – 1.0421 million;

2023/2024 academic year – 1.3145 million;

2024/2025 academic year – 1.4328 million;

2025/2026 academic year – 1.535 million.
