58th International Chemistry Olympiad concludes in Uzbekistan

A ceremony marking the conclusion of the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2026) was held at the “Uzbekistan” Palace of International Forums in Tashkent.

The ceremony was attended by Ilhom Sirojov, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Education Reform, Ezoza Karimova, Minister of Preschool and School Education, Kongratbay Sharipov, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and relevant ministries and agencies, Olympiad participants, representatives of national and international media, and members of the public.

For the first time in Central Asian history, Uzbekistan hosted the International Chemistry Olympiad.

The competition brought together about 1,000 school students, members of the international scientific committee, observers, and foreign guests from 94 countries.

Throughout the week, participants showcased their knowledge and skills while gaining familiarity with Uzbekistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Sirojov and John Leon Kiappes, Chair of the Olympiad Steering Committee, emphasized that hosting such a prestigious international event in Uzbekistan was one of the practical outcomes of the large-scale education reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Following the Olympiad, 112 school students won bronze medals, 74 won silver medals, and 41 won gold medals. 

All members of the Uzbekistan national team were among the prize winners. Raykhona Tuymurodova secured a gold medal, while Jasur Mustafayev, Azizmuhammad Hafizov, and Mirjalol Khomidjonov each received silver medals.
