World chess stars gather in Tashkent

The international chess event, UzChess Cup 2026, showcasing top global players, has begun at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Tashkent.

In the tournament’s opening round, Uzbekistan’s Mukhiddin Madaminov won against a top contender – Ian Nepomniachtchi. The match between Nodirbek Yakubboyev and Nodirbek Abdusattorov resulted in a draw. Additionally, Shamsiddin Vokhidov drew in a closely fought game against Arjun Erigaisi.

Chess fans are also highly interested in the matches between Nikolas Theodorou and Hans Niemann, as well as Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Vidit Gujrathi. 

The tournament is scheduled to continue until June 15.
