Uzmetkombinat JSC: Embracing new technologies, undertaking large-scale projects, and prioritizing development
Founded in 1944, Uzmetkombinat JSC is among Uzbekistan’s top metallurgical companies and significantly contributes to the country’s economic growth.
The company employs over 5,500 staff members who manufacture top-tier metallurgical products with cutting-edge technologies.
A press tour was arranged to introduce media representatives to the plant’s operations, ongoing projects, and plans.
At the start of the event, participants explored the plant’s museum, observing exhibits that showcased the company’s history, key milestones in its growth, and recent achievements.
Bakhodir Abdullayev, the Chairman of the Management Board of Uzmetkombinat JSC, provided an overview to media representatives about the plant’s nearly hundred-year history, its contribution to the growth of the national industry, and the significant transformations implemented in recent years.
On July 13, during a working visit to Bekabad, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant.
During the visit, a ceremony was conducted to commission the new casting and rolling complex, where the Head of State pressed a symbolic button to inaugurate the modern production facility.
This complex represents Uzbekistan’s inaugural large-scale industrial venture geared towards hot-rolled flat steel manufacturing. Its commencement will elevate the country’s metallurgical sector, promote import substitution, and build capacity to produce up to 1 million tons of products each year. Additionally, it will facilitate the broader adoption of energy-efficient and digital technologies.
Participants of the press tour visited the Artificial Intelligence Center, commissioned this year. The advanced digital management system enables real-time monitoring of all the plant’s production facilities, facilitates analysis of production processes, and allows quick access to essential information. Subsequently, journalists examined the workings of the new casting and rolling complex.
“Before the launch of the complex, domestic demand for hot-rolled sheet in coils was fully satisfied by imports. Last year alone, imports reached nearly 1.5 million tons, valued at about $800 million. This product will now be produced locally. The project is expected to add over $300 million in value and create more than 3,000 jobs. Importantly, our products are recognized for their high quality and competitiveness, as confirmed by our customers. In the future, they are likely to see extensive use in the automotive and railway sectors, energy, and other key industries”, Mr. Abdullayev stated.
During the press tour, media representatives gained insights not only into the enterprise’s production capacities but also into its openness policy and partnership development initiatives.
Bakhodir Abdullayev met with Odiljon Tojiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of the National Media Association of Uzbekistan, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation. Afterward, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration in the informational sector.
The press tour participants met with Hamid Andayev, whose many years of dedicated service were highly commended by the Head of State, as well as with young specialist Dilnoza Primkulova, a recipient of the Zulfiya State Prize.
A special atmosphere was created at the event when labor veteran H. Andayev received the keys to a BYD vehicle, a gift from the President of the country.
The participants of the press tour also toured the Metallurg Football Academy, established in 2021. This academy focuses on developing young football talent and features state-of-the-art infrastructure that meets international standards.
Following the event, Bakhodir Abdullayev, Chairman of the Management Board of Uzmetkombinat JSC, responded to questions from media representatives.
