Uzbekistan’s key anti-corruption reforms are highly praised
Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan, met with Oliver Stolpe, Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran, and Pakistan.
The meeting focused on the progress made and the challenges remaining in implementing the recommendations outlined in the UN Convention against Corruption.
The parties also reviewed joint plans to explore opportunities for developing coordinated approaches among countries ahead of this year’s Conference of the States Parties to the Convention in Doha, including the preparation of proposals for draft resolutions.
A. Burkhanov noted that international cooperation is one of the priority areas of Uzbekistan’s anti-corruption policy and expressed gratitude for the support consistently provided by UN structures, in particular the Office on Drugs and Crime, for the country’s initiatives in this field.
Oliver Stolpe highly praised Uzbekistan’s significant reforms in anti-corruption policy, particularly efforts to introduce new preventive mechanisms for combating corruption and advancing digitalization in the sector.
In conclusion, the UN representative expressed support for the mutually beneficial proposals put forward by the agency in various areas of cooperation and confirmed readiness for their implementation in the future.
