Uzbekistan prepares to launch its first scientific satellite
Uzbekistan plans to launch the first national scientific satellite into orbit in 2028. Currently, an engineering corps is being formed, and specialists are being trained to implement the Mirzo Ulugbek-6U project. At the same time, activities are underway to train the first Uzbek cosmonaut.
According to the Press Service of the Presidential Administration, it was proposed to prepare the national cosmonaut for a short-term space flight lasting 10-14 days.
It was noted that the flight of a national cosmonaut into space should be inextricably linked with the implementation of a specific scientific program.
Tasks such as remote diagnostics in medicine and biology, and the study of the effectiveness of local medicinal extracts, have been identified as research areas in space. Testing of drought- and salt-resistant varieties, modeling of closed agrobiosystems in plant genetics, testing of materials, fabrics, and fibers for heat accumulation and dissipation in materials science are also provided.
In addition, the possibility of holding the 2028 International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand is being considered. The leading space organizations of the United States, Europe, China, India, Russia, and other countries expressed their interest in this major event.
