Uzbekistan and Serbia: New stage of dialogue
Uzbekistan and Serbia established diplomatic relations on January 5, 1995, and these ties have grown over the past 30 years based on enduring friendship and mutual respect.
During 2025-2026, political dialogue experienced a significant boost. The high-level summit during President Aleksandar Vučić’s first official visit to Tashkent on October 28-29 marked a new chapter in bilateral relations. After the discussions, the leaders signed a Joint Statement and several intergovernmental agreements to enhance cooperation across political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
As part of the institutional and legal strengthening of diplomatic relations, the Economic Cooperation Agreement entered into force on May 7. A mechanism for political consultations between the foreign ministries and a permanent Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation were also established to ensure regular coordination of the comprehensive dialogue.
As a logical and effective continuation of this process, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić visited Uzbekistan, where key agenda items were discussed.
Overall, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official return visit to Serbia is poised to be a historic milestone, strengthening bilateral political ties and transforming the relationship into a mutually beneficial partnership that extends beyond the region to a global level.
