Uzbekistan Airports and Allied Biofuels agree to develop green aviation fuel production in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan Airports Joint Stock Company and Allied Biofuels FE LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on the supply of environmentally friendly, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and electro-synthetic fuel (e-SAF).
According to the document, the parties intend to develop a partnership for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel, with the partnership planned to be launched by 2030.
The signing of the agreement marked an important step toward strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as an emerging regional hub for sustainable aviation, environmentally friendly fuel development, and zero-carbon transport infrastructure.
Allied Biofuels is reportedly implementing a major project in Uzbekistan to build an integrated biofuel complex for the industrial production of SAF, e-SAF, and green diesel. Once at full capacity, the complex is expected to produce approximately 160,400 tons of SAF, 257,000 tons of e-SAF, and 5,040 tons of green diesel annually. With an estimated project cost of about $6.1 billion, the complex will become one of the largest green energy infrastructure initiatives in the region. The facility is expected to be powered by renewable energy sources totaling 4.45 GW, along with an energy storage system of 1,600 MWh. Green hydrogen production will be supported by electrolyzers with a total capacity of 2.4 GW, and Plug Power has been selected as the preferred supplier of electrolysis technologies.
The project is being implemented with support from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Investment Promotion Agency.
Javlonbek Umarkhodjayev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports, noted that the company views cooperation with Allied Biofuels as an important step toward modernizing the country’s aviation sector and establishing a sustainable supply of aviation fuel.
As Allied Biofuels CEO Alfred Benedict emphasized, the memorandum underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s transition to greener aviation and to developing sustainable air transport in the region.
The cooperation is expected to help attract investment, introduce modern technologies, and develop the SAF and e-SAF market in Uzbekistan, while also contributing to achieving international goals for decarbonizing the aviation industry.
