U.S. Senate delegation visits Samarkand
A delegation, led by Senator Steve Daines, Co-Chair of the U.S. Senate Central Asia Caucus, arrived in Samarkand today.
Officials from the regional administration welcomed the guests at Samarkand railway station.
The delegation visited the Amir Temur Mausoleum, where they learned about the history of statehood under the great commander and the Timurids, including their significant construction efforts. The visitors expressed great appreciation for the ongoing work to preserve the historical and cultural monuments from the Timurid period and to pass them on to future generations.
The guests then visited the renowned Registan Square, where they learned about the history of its madrasahs’ construction and their current state. They were also informed about efforts to boost the site’s tourism appeal and the cultural events hosted there.
The delegation also toured various historical monuments and attractions in Samarkand.
