Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan summarize the results of successful negotiations
At a meeting with media representatives held at the Kuksaroy Residence, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon shared their assessments of the results of the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Leader of Uzbekistan emphasized that Uzbekistan sincerely welcomes the high achievements of fraternal Tajikistan in ensuring sustainable economic growth, attracting investment, curbing inflation, and increasing the real incomes of the population.
Tajikistan is a reliable strategic partner and ally of Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that our countries share common goals, views, and aspirations, and that bilateral relations are advancing dynamically in the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.
The regular meetings among parliaments, governments, regional leaders, and representatives of the intelligentsia were noted with satisfaction.
Based on last year’s data, trade turnover between the countries totaled nearly $1 billion. Industrial cooperation is growing rapidly. Today, over 500 joint enterprises operate in Uzbekistan.


Transport cooperation is growing. Ten flights per week run between the capitals.
The President of Uzbekistan reported on the substantial preparatory work carried out for the current summit.
Meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, forums for regions, rectors, scientists, youth, and analytical centers, Days of Tajik Culture and Cinema, and several other important events were successfully held.
During today’s productive negotiations and the first meeting of the Interstate Council, a broad range of issues was discussed, and priorities and target objectives for developing a multifaceted partnership were identified.
The importance of maintaining active contacts at all levels and deepening dialogue within international and regional structures, including formats like Consultative Meetings and “Central Asia Plus”, was emphasized.


Special attention was given to developing the economic cooperation. The governments of both countries have been instructed to take practical steps to boost trade to $2 billion based on a dedicated program.
To this end, the development of the “Oybek – Fotekhobod” trade zone will be expedited, and a Cooperation Program with initiatives valued at $2 billion across energy, geology, metallurgy, textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors will be implemented.
The parties agreed to actively leverage the Joint Investment Company’s potential to advance these projects.
Particular attention was paid to the transport and transit sector. An Agreement to implement an electronic permit system for freight transportation was signed, and agreements were made to expand air and rail links and to boost capacity at border crossings.
The main goal of these coordinated measures is to create favorable conditions for businesses and citizens while harnessing regions’ potential as engines of trade and economic growth.


One key area of collaboration is in the water and energy sectors.
Readiness was confirmed to advance major green energy projects jointly and to coordinate the distribution of water, automation, and the digitalization of water facilities.
Cultural and humanitarian ties continue to serve as a strong bridge of friendship between peoples. As part of cooperation, a film about the friendship between Abdurahman Jami and Alisher Navoi has been created, and one of the streets in New Tashkent has been named after the city of Dushanbe.
An intention was announced to continue active exchanges in education, tourism, and youth according to an annual schedule.
To support the large Uzbek and Tajik communities in both countries, promote the widespread development of cultural centers, and preserve native languages, traditions, and customs, a comprehensive Program of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields will be developed.
In conclusion, it was emphasized that the outcomes of the current historic visit will fully contribute to strengthening allied relations and advancing the goals of sustainable development and prosperity in the two fraternal countries.
