Opportunities for interparliamentary diplomacy to be used effectively
The third meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus took place in Khiva.
The participants discussed developing the strategic partnership between the two countries through interparliamentary dialogue, strengthening the role of parliaments in ensuring the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, and expanding trade, economic, and investment ties.
The meeting underscored the importance of using interparliamentary diplomacy effectively to achieve the set objectives. To this end, attention was given to intensifying contacts between parliamentary committees and cooperation groups, exchanging legislative experience, and improving the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
Expanding trade and economic ties was also a key topic of discussion. Given the goal of increasing bilateral trade turnover to $2 billion, the need to support investment and industrial cooperation projects and to expand direct contacts between business communities was emphasized.
The participants exchanged views on increasing joint projects in agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, and other priority sectors, as well as on cooperation across various fields.
The sides agreed to continue the Interparliamentary Commission’s regular work and develop it as an effective mechanism to enrich the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Belarus through new practical projects.
