Leaders of Uzbekistan and Serbia elevate bilateral relations to a new level
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić held talks at the Palace of Serbia in a one-on-one format, and with the participation of official delegations.
The talks focused on key issues related to developing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Serbia.
The President of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to the Serbian leader for the warm reception and hospitality, highlighting that his first visit to Belgrade marks the start of a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
The sides noted with deep satisfaction the growing momentum in political dialogue, interparliamentary ties, trade and economic cooperation, and business and humanitarian exchanges. They emphasized that opening diplomatic missions and establishing an interparliamentary forum will deepen bilateral relations.
Trade, economic, and investment cooperation is becoming a solid foundation for bilateral relations. Since the beginning of the year, a series of economic events with high-level delegations has been successfully held.
Yesterday, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission was held. Today, the Uzbekistan – Serbia business forum will be held, with representatives of leading companies from both countries participating.
Particular attention was paid to increasing bilateral trade, primarily by expanding the supply of in-demand goods. In this regard, the sides emphasized the importance of developing and adopting a Free Trade Agreement, establishing cooperation in standardization, and organizing reciprocal exhibitions.
It was also noted that Uzbekistan will actively participate in the international EXPO 2027 exhibition in Belgrade with a national pavilion.
The implementation of new joint projects in priority areas, including transport and logistics, light and food industries, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and the digital economy, was discussed. The significant potential for industrial cooperation in the production of automotive components, equipment, electrical engineering, and electronics was highlighted.
To ensure effective implementation of all agreements, a joint Action Plan for the Development of Industrial Partnership for 2026-2028 was adopted.
The importance of developing interregional cooperation was emphasized. The leaders welcomed establishing direct ties between Samarkand region and Vojvodina, as well as between the cities of Samarkand and Novi Sad.
In the humanitarian sphere, initiatives were proposed to expand cooperation in education, culture, sports, and tourism. The sides agreed to hold Culture Days and joint film, theater, and music festivals, and to develop direct contacts between sports federations.
Special attention was paid to organized labor migration. The Serbian side expressed strong interest in establishing systematic cooperation in this area. The sides welcomed adopting an agreement on mobility and labor migration during the visit.
The leaders also held a thorough exchange of views on regional and international issues, including mutual support within multilateral forums.
A comprehensive roadmap will be adopted to ensure the timely and effective implementation of the agreements reached, as well as the decisions and agreements adopted.
