GEOMIN 2026 focuses on artificial intelligence, critical minerals and international cooperation
The first-day events of the GEOMIN 2026 International Conference, themed “Advancing mineral exploration through AI and digital transformation”, took place in Tashkent today.
The event, organized by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) with support from the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, brings together representatives from more than 70 organizations across 26 countries.
Feruza Khamidova, First Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan, and SEG President Rocky Detomo opened the conference. They noted that such events are crucial platforms for promoting scientific research in geology and geophysics, showcasing modern technologies and innovative methods, and enabling industry experts to share knowledge.
As part of the conference, participants discussed new approaches to mineral prospecting and exploration, the adoption of modern technologies, and the exchange of international experience.
As Ms. Khamidova noted, the mineral resources sector is at an important stage of development that is of major significance to the global economy. The transition to clean energy, rapid advances in digital technologies, and the widespread use of artificial intelligence are significantly increasing demand for mineral resources. At the same time, she said, political risks, trade restrictions, supply chain disruptions, climate change, and logistical delays are making reliable access to raw materials a key priority for the global economy.
The conference focuses on critical and strategic minerals, the use of artificial intelligence and big data in geological exploration, modern geophysical surveys, and geological modeling. Participants are also discussing the development of promising mineral resources, attracting investment, sector digitalization, the sustainable use of natural resources, and the implementation of ESG principles.
A technology exhibition featuring specialists from various countries has also been organized as part of the conference.
The conference program includes a technical visit to the Kalmakyr copper deposit, where participants can review its geological structure and learn about current geological exploration techniques.
